PauPau @ Gem Restaurant, Bishop Street

Gem Restaurant is located at Bishop Street, mainly served for North and South Indian cuisines from spicy and fiery dishes to creamy delights. This restaurant is well-decorated with all wooden furniture and all Indian stylish painting on their wall that are imported from India.

Today I am using online coupon for a dinner set (Soup of the day, Main Course, Mango Lassi and Dessert) at RM12.90 Nett.

Mango Lassi
The Mango Lassi is semi-diluted and less mango aroma, however the sweetness is just nice.

Tomato Soup
The Tomato Soup served with some croutons and the taste is less fragrant and more to salty taste.

Chicken Tandoori
The Chicken Tandoori is served with plain Naan bread, Tandoori chicken, mint sauce and curry. The Tandoori chicken is well marinated and quite flavorful, while the Naan bread goes well with the mint sauce too.

Chicken Briyani
The Chicken Briyani is consists of briyani rice with chicken and egg, served with curry. The briyani rice is quite fragrant and delicious too, but for the chicken itself are slightly bland, so you have to eat along the chicken with curry for a better taste.

PauPau @ Red Chef Sizzling House, Argyll Road

Red Chef Sizzling House, the Penang first Sizzling Western Restaurant is newly opened on November 2011. It is located just opposite of MingGood Hotel and Yes Hotel at Argyll Road.

Red Chef Sizzling House not only served for wide range of Sizzling Western for chicken, fish, lamb and beef, but they also served local delights too. The dining place are quite spacious with cozy and nice ambiance.

Today I am using the online coupon for this 4 course western set meal (Soup of the day + 1 main course + dessert + drink) for only RM 15.80 nett.

Honey Lemon (without ice)
The Honey Lemon are taste good as the mixture level of the lemon juice and honey are just right.

Broccoli Soup
The Broccoli Soup is creamy enough and this thick blend of soup is also rich in aroma. The garlic bread is very crispy, but if the butter is well-spread all over the bread; then this would be perfect.

Crazy Cheesy Fish
The Crazy Cheesy Fish is well presentable, the pan fried fish and baked mashed potato is covered with cheese and topped up with ham. There is also garden salad with tortilla chip nicely set aside. The cheesy fish is quite nice to me as I am definitely a cheese lover. The mashed potato is baked until golden brown and its taste more to milky taste and slightly sweet. Overall, the food portion size are quite big for me.

Sizzling BBQ Chicken
The Sizzling BBQ Chicken is served with deep-fried chicken, baked mashed potato, broccoli. carrot and lettuce. The Sizzling BBQ Chicken is served very hot in a hotplate and then the waiter will pour the BBQ sauce into the chicken.

The deep-fried chicken goes well with the BBQ sauce and taste good. The mashed potato is baked until golden brown and its taste more to milky taste and slightly sweet. Again, the food portion size are quite big too.

PauPau Nyonya Curry Chicken

Curry Chicken is one of the popular Nyonya dish in Penang. Today I am going to share with you "PauPau Nyonya Curry Chicken" which my recipe is less oily and less fat as I am going to replace the rich coconut milk with low fat milk.

Ingredients:
Boneless cut chicken (You may use chicken with bone-in too. Marinated the chicken with curry powder for at least 30 minutes.)
5 potatoes (Bring to boil until half-cook and set aside. Peeled and cut into halves or wedges)
250ml low fat milk (You may use thick coconut milk if you prefer a more creamy curry.)
1 sprig curry leaves
3 star arise
2 cinnamon stick
150ml water
2 tablespoon olive oil

Ingredients: (Blend of Spices Paste)
3 cloves garlic
3 red onion (best to use shallot)
Lemongrass (Removed the green part)
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon cumin powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
2 tablespoon chilly powder

Directions:
Cut red onion, garlic and lemongrass into small cubes and then blend all the ingredients until smooth.

Heat up the olive oil and pour in the blend into the hot wok and stir fry for 5mins or until fragrant.
Add in turmeric powder, coriander powder, chilly powder, cumin powder, star arise and cinnamon sticks; and stir well.
Add in the marinated chicken and water, then cook with medium heat until the chicken is cooked well.
Add in potato and curry leaves and stir well.

Add in milk and salt (to taste). Continue to simmer the chicken at low heat for about 30minutes.

Served hot with steam rice, bread, nasi kunyit or roti jala.

PauPau @ Kocha Taiwanese Delight, Burmah Road

Kocha Taiwanese Delight is located at Burmah Road and this Taiwanese restaurant is quite popular at Penang as well. My first visit to Kocha Taiwanese Delight is back in year 2006, and it has been quite a year long from my last visit there.

Well, the dining place and decorations are almost remain the same, just that they have added some lovely wall flower decoration.

Iron Egg (RM 1.80 each + 5% Charges)
We have ordered two Iron Egg as we both like the iron egg very much since our first dined in there. The iron egg is well-marinated, so it is very springy and flavorful too.

Shanghai Noodles (RM 1.50 each + 5% Charges)
The Shanghai Noodles, the more healthier type noodles is great to eat with beef steamboat.
(Rate: 3.5/5)

Beef Steamboat (RM 22.50 + 5% Charges)
The Beef Steamboat is another favorite of mine and is a must order dish here. This mini beef steamboat with sliced beef is suitable for two persons. The beef steamboat is also comes along with their special chilly shrimp sauce.

The mini beef steamboat is cooked with corn, yam, green vegetables, cabbage, enoki mushroom, black fungus, bean-curd, beef balls and assorted balls.

Just dipped the sliced beef into the hot pot, and you can decide the tenderness of the sliced beef. Keep the vegetables and cabbage continuous to simmer under the hot pot and eat the vegetables and cabbage for the last. As the soup will be more sweetness and tasty, while the vegetables and cabbage will be more juicy and flavorful too.
