PauPau Oyster Porridge

Sometimes it is good to have a light meal such as porridge, especially during a hot day. Porridge is not only high in fiber, but also rich in nutrition. You can actually cook the porridge in a soup pot or slow cooker, but I prefer soup pot as it is much faster than slow cooker.

Today I am going to share with you "Oyster Porridge" recipe which is quite nourishing and delicious. Hope that you will enjoy it too!

Ingredients:
50 gm dried oyster (soak overnight and reserved the oyster water)
6 ~ 8 red dates (remove the pit)
Fresh shitake mushroom (remove the stem and sliced the mushroom)
400gm pork ribs
1 cup brown rice
5 tablespoon millet
6 ~ 8 tablespoon oat
Water
1/2 teaspoon salt
Optional: dried shrimp

Ingredients: (to marinate for about 20 minutes)
Sliced fish
Light soy sauce (as per taste)
Black pepper powder (depend on how peppery you like)

Directions:
Wash and soak the dried oyster in water for overnight. (reserved the oyster water)
If you are using dried mushroom, wash and soak the mushroom in water for overnight. (reserved the mushroom water)
Wash once and soak the brown rice in water for about 20 minutes.
Fill water in the the pot and bring it to boil.
Wash and rinse off the excess water of the pork ribs.
Add in pork ribs in the boiling water and cook for about 10 minutes in high heat.
Add in seedless red date, turn to medium heat and cook for about 20 minutes.
Optional: Add some water in the broth whenever you feel it is dry out.
Add in soaked brown rice, millet and oat in the broth. Stir well and continue to cook for about 20 minutes.
Add in sliced mushroom, oyster and oyster water (mushroom water if got), continue to cook at low heat until the porridge is starchy enough (or until the thick consistency that you prefer).
Add in the marinated fish sliced into the porridge.
Turn off the heat once the fish is cooked.
Add in salt (to taste) and stir well.
Served it while hot.

PauPau @ Sawara Restaurant, Crystal Point

Currently Sawara Restaurant has opened another new outlet at Crystal Point (Phase 1) since August 2012, and I noticed that quite lots of people visiting this outlets during lunch and dinner. Finally I can sequence out some time and try out the Claypot Fish Head at this new outlet.

Their chilly sauce with combination of spicy and sourish, add on the fragrant of coriander is always my favorite.

Shanghai Noodle (RM 4 + 5% Charges)
Shanghai Noodle is always the best to eat along with claypot fish head.

Claypot Fish Head Soup - Small (RM 45 + 5% Charges)
The Claypot Fish Head Soup is cooked with fish head, homemade fish paste, tofu, chinese cabbage, cabbage, spring onion, and lots of garlic in a large clay pot. But, they did not served the fresh coriander here to add on to the soup. However, the soup is quite flavorful with the sweetness of the fish head, but slightly mild compare to the main outlet. The soup is getting richer if continuous boiling it with the rest of the ingredients and their homemade fish paste is still springy and delicious with hint of parsley taste.
