PauPau @ Hai Koay Teow Th'ng Restaurant, Bayan Lepas

Hai Koay Teow Th'ng Restaurant is located at the new shop-houses (Bayan Lepas), just right opposite of PISA (Penang International Sports Arena), a couple shop-houses away from Olive bakery. Previously they are sitting at Golden Lake Coffee Shop (Relau), and now they have expand their business into air-conditioned shop.

Besides Koay Teow Th'ng, there is other choices of noodles, rice noodles, add on and white cut chicken. Although Koay Teow Th'ng is their signature dish, but I did not order it as I have minimized my intake for processed food after since I changed my eating manner. So, the only choice of carbohydrates that left for me is Rice!

Meaty Soup (RM 4.50 Nett)
The original soup is actually consists of fish balls, minced meat and sliced pork. But, as per my request, mine is without fish balls, and there is generous portions of minced meat and sliced pork. However, the soup is still salty to my taste liking even though I have requested for less salty.

White Cut Chicken - Large (RM 8.50 Nett)
The White Cut Chicken is consists of breast meat and chicken thigh, garnished with some spring onion. The chicken is quite smooth and taste good with the seasoning.

Blanched Vegetables - Small (RM 4 Nett)
The Blanched Vegetables is actually blanched lettuce and add on gravy and chicken floss. The blanched lettuce is still crunchy and good to eat with chicken floss. However, the add on gravy is quite salty to me, should ask not to add gravy next time.

PauPau Chinese Yam Chicken Soup

Chinese Yam (Shan Yao 山药 in Chinese; Huai Shan in Cantonese) has a hairy rough skin but the flesh is in nice pure white. It has mild sweet in flavour and starchy texture.  Chinese Yam is very good in replenish Qi (vital energy) and also enrich Yin in kidney.

Well, it is quite interesting for the first time in handling this hairy stick. When you start to peel the skin, this white flesh will become hard to hold still as it has the mucus gel like texture that make it slippery.

Ingredients:
Whole Chicken; Cut into smaller pieces (I am using "Kampung Chicken")
Fresh Chinese Yam; Peeled and cut into thin slices
6 ~ 8 Red Dates; Remove seeds
10gm Yuk Chuk
15gm Dang Shen
2 ~ 4 Dried Scallop
20gm wolf-berries (Kei Ji)
Water
Salt (to taste)

Directions:
Fill in a pot with water and bring to boil. Add in the chicken and boil for about 1 minute. Discard the water.
Fill in water in a stewing pot and bring to boil. Add in the chicken and all the ingredients (except wolfberries and salt). Boil in medium heat for about 10 minutes.
Simmer the soup over low heat for about 1 ~ 2 hours.
Add wolfberries and pinch of salt to the soup.
Served hot.

PauPau @ Tai Tong Restaurant, Cintra Street

De Tai Tong Restaurant, one of the popular restaurants in Penang which is located at down-town, Cintra Street. Here is also my favourite dim sum place, actually they not only have variety of dim sum, but they also served noodles, rice and ala carte dishes. And my most favourite noodles are Sang Mee (the crispy noodle served with gravy). However, I did not mix the crispy noodles with the gravy, but just enjoy eating the crispy noodles alone.

Dim Sum trolley

Salted Fish Bun (RM 3.30 nett)
The Salted Fish Bun has a golden brown toast skin with the salted fish meat filling. The bun has the slight crisp and not so oily, while the meat filling has the fragrant of  semi-strong salted fish taste.

Steamed Glutinous Rice with Chicken / Lou Mai Kai (RM 3.30 nett)
The Steamed Glutinous Rice with Chicken / Lou Mai Kai is steamed seasoning sticky rice filled with Chinese mushroom, Chinese sausage, chicken and meat slices. I just like it as it has the sticky texture with the right filling.

Malay Steamed Cake / Ma Lai Gao (RM 2.20 nett)
The Malay Steamed Cake / Ma Lai Gao is steamed brown sugar steamed cake with sunflower seeds. The Ma Lai Gao is quite soft and fluffy, and the sweetness is just nice.

PauPau @ BBee Park Chinese Cuisine, The One

BBee Park Chinese Cuisine is located at The One Terrace Plus, just same row as the furniture shop. Their speciality is serving wanton noodle, and their secret recipe in making wanton noodle is from their grandma.

Now they are having a promotional for chicken slices wanton noodle for RM 2 nett, and this promotion is valid until end of June 2014.

The shop furnishing is quite simplify, cosy feel with charming wall painting.

The process in making wanton noodle

Special Wanton Noodle (RM 3.80 Nett)
The Special Wanton Noodle is wrapped and placed in a basket, and yes... this is how they served it. Unwrap the paper wrap, and there is a plastic wrap the wanton noodle.

The special wanton noodle is served with sliced pork (char siew), chicken slices, couple of wanton and blanched choy sum. The wanton noodle is cooked al-dente, the noodle is really springy with light tossed of seasoning. The difference if compare with typical wanton noodle, is that no dark soy is added. However, the food portion is rather small to me.

Curry Chicken Noodle (RM 8.80 Nett)
The Curry Chicken Noodle is served with deep fried chicken with curry, blanched cabbage slices and lady finger in coconut milk soup. The noodle is nice and springy, the soup is mild and less fragrant of coconut milk. Last the deep fried chicken is not my taste liking, as I would prefer the typical curry chicken instead of deep fried chicken top up with curry.
